On the afternoon of May 8, Prof. Zhang Wenjun, academician of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, paid a visit to the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. Zhu Xinyuan, president of the university, met with Zhang Wenjun. During the discussion, the two sides had in-depth discussions on fields such as systems science, industrial design, and medical devices, and reached a consensus on discipline development and international cooperation. Zhao Laijun, dean of Business School, Liu Weiwei, vice dean of the School, and He Jianjia, deputy director of the President’s Office, participated in the meeting.
Zhu Xinyuan extended a warm welcome to Academician Zhang Wenjun and highlighted the university’s educational characteristics. He stated that USST has long focused on and collaborated with the manufacturing industry, and to serve social and economic development.He mentioned that the university is currently establishing two international organizations, the World Industrial Design Society and the International Society for Complex Systems. He expressed the hope to collaborate with Academician Zhang in jointly building a “design-manufacturing-system” talent cultivation system.
Zhang Wenjun put forward the concept of “design-driven modern manufacturing”. He praised the strengths of the University in the field of systems science and shared international experiences in interdisciplinary collaboration. He advocated breaking down disciplinary barriers and promoting technological integration.
Before the meeting, Academician Zhang delivered a report at the “Academician Forum” of Business School, sharing the application of systematic design thinking in technological innovation and educational practice.
